A Custom software tool for video artist Quayola to create the ‘Strata’ and ‘Topologies’ artworks.
This software automatically decomposes photographs into delaunay triangles. High resolution image are analysed using a series of custom image processing methods. The software then extracts a set of points that represent meaningful image features. In a second stage a triangle mesh is generated from these points and the average colour for each triangle is determined base on the underlying photograph. Triangle data can then be exported in a 3D format and be directly used by the artist to generate his work.
The included video shows Quayolas final ‘Topologies’ artwork. Topologies was exhibited at the BFI Gallary in November 2010.
